Technics SU X840 – Replaced SVI 3102B

Outputs not working - this was ONLY an intermittent ground connex fault of the front board metal shield!! - not a blown SVI amp as I thought I had done at full volume on the old SVI unit- it was OK!! Bought/fitted a replacement anyway, -£5 - the grey type...no need..doh...

I blew my Sondberg speakers at full power, so assumed SVI was blown too - prob was, but the initial fault (no output) still remained after SVI replacement, because it was a shield ground issue in the first place I dodn't check properly for!!

  1. Don't rush used amp worst case, pessimistic diagnosis!
  2. List all possible fault options and check by most likely/simplest/cheapest fixes first
  3. Poke around a bit to see if connections are bad!!

Tested with new built 1kHz sine gen at 2Vpp CD input:

It's now only capable of -8dB before clipping with a 1V peak input.

P=IV

16.4V Cyclic RMS = 268.96 / 8 ohm = 54 W per channel @ -8dB no clips
